What to look out for at Melbourne Fashion Week

MFW-L

Just one month away, we’re already thinking about our favourite week on the fashion calendar. Fashion Week hits Melbourne for eight huge days, with 150 events,  100+ designers and 10 main runways.

From August 31 to September 7, we’re excited to get dressed up and hit the town for all things fashion. Here are our top events for the week (that won’t break the bank).

THE FASHION CAPSULES

Presented by Creative Victoria, The Fashion Capsules allows you to discover a series of six exhibition capsules at various places across Melbourne. Each capsule houses innovative creations by Victorian-based fashion installation, digital and video artists, designers, jewellers, artisans and film makers. We’re expectinginnovative works from fashion students, giant balloon sculptures and floral installations and it’s all free!

STUDENT RUNWAYS

As usual, the student runways are set to be a fashion week highlight. With next generation of Australian fashion are students from fashion’s best institutions like RMIT, Whitehouse Institute of Design, The Masters Institute of Creative Education, Box Hill Institute, Kangan Institute and Holmesglen Institute we’re exciting to see what they’ve come up with. We particularly love the student runways because their designs can be more daring and creative than your regular commercial brands.

THE STREETWEAR RUNWAYS

MFW brings fashion to the streets with impromptu fashion moments popping up at different city locations throughout the week; featuring new season looks from designers and brands retailing in Melbourne’s most iconic laneways. With three runways across different days during the week, it’s a must see especially because you won’t have to pay a thing to watch.

VOGUE AMERICAN EXPRESS’ FASHION NIGHT OUT

Now this one might break your bank a little, but with exclusive in store offers and customised experiences it may just be worth it. And what fashion-lover doesn’t love a good shop?
