It’s no secret that when it comes to pulling off that perfect look, your hair can be your best accessory. And what better way to show off this accessory than in some creatively styled braids!
This week, Nigeria-based photographer Medina Dugger honoured the iconic work of another Nigerian photographer J. D. Okhai Ojeikere. Ojeikere is well known in the industry for his beautiful black and white portraits featuring around 1,000 different black hair styles.
Dugger’s ongoing series is titles “Chroma” and celebrates the beauty of black hair through various braiding methods.
Medina Dugger described the showcase as “an ode to J.D. Okhai Ojeikere.”
“…a celebration of traditional and contemporary braiding methods. The series takes more of a conceptual approach to Ojeikere’s documentary style and recontextualizes some of Ojeikere’s (and other) hairstyles to highlight current and imagined hair designs, celebrating the art of Nigerian hair culture.”
Here are some amazing images from the series.
We’re positively in love with this series and just how well she has captured the beauty of black hair. As Medina Dugger offers her ode to photographer J. D. Okhai Ojeikere, here’s our ode to our favourite hairstyle – the braid. Here are our favourite looks from the fashionistas we love.
