2017’s Most Memorable Moments

The year was filled with many ups and downs, but today’s blog post will only be about the uplifting, self-gratifying, warmest of happy moments, according to yours truly.

Let’s have a look.

21.1.17- The Women’s March happened globally; it was powerful, it was moving and has since gained momentum.

29.1.17- Black Girl Magic took home seven out of 13 Screen Actors Guild Awards, with all awards presented to individuals or casts of colour.

7.2.17- The Obamas went on vacay and let’s be honest, their trip was well deserved and garnished a lot of followers on Instagram, but indeed we were all jealous and wanted to be wherever Barrack and his lovely family were!

12.2.17- Donald Glover or also known as Childish Gambino was nominated for five Grammy Awards. Even, later on, he managed to snatch the Emmy’s up, with one being the Best-Directing Comedy Award which was the first time won by a black person.

12.2.17- Solange won a Grammy, for Best RnB performance for her song ‘Cranes in the Sky”.

26.2.17- The film Moonlight which is about a look at three defining chapters in the life of ‘Chiron’, a young black man growing up in Miami. Won an Academy Award for Best Picture, which has become the first film with an all-black cast.

27.3.17- Fresh Princes of Bel-Air reunion. As corny as it sounds, it was exactly that. Cute and totally to boot, who doesn’t love a reunion, especially with such a special cast that there was.

1.5.17- MET Gala, Rihanna killed it with her outfit, so befitting to the theme.

13.6.17- Beyoncé and Jay Z welcomed a new baby boy and girl, Sir and Rumi, to their family in June, with a beautiful Instagram post.

31.7.17- A monumental date, which is when Skin+Pepper moved the office to The Commons in Collingwood. And yeah, it’s been pretty cool.

1.9.17/16.11.17- The tennis champion, Serena Williams began motherhood and shortly after followed with her beginning wifehood.

7.9.17 to 13.9.17- New York Fashion Week, had it’s most diverse runway shows of all times, with progress being the ultimate key to multiculturalism.

8.9.17- Rihanna drops a beauty line. Diversity is welcomed further into makeup shades. Hallelujah!  Adwoa Aboah owns the cover of the British Vogue as well as becoming the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty.

22.9.17- Versace shows off their new collection with a major deja vu, with past supermodels walking the catwalk.

27.11.17- Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got engaged, a *heartfelt sigh of happiness*.

28.11.17- Diversity at Victoria’s Secret. Where out of 55 models to walk the famous runway show, almost half of whom were women of colour, and 17 of those models were black.

1.12.17- The British Fashion Awards announced that The Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, was this year the much deserved Pat McGrath.

13.12.17- Oprah Winfrey’s impending award was announced for the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is bestowed to an accomplished individual who has made an impact on the world of entertainment.

Wow, what a year. Let’s hope 2018 has much more to celebrate!
